The word "NEKENAEGE' NAHDAHW'SDELDIIX" is a Dene (Athabaskan) word meaning 'Our language came back to us'. This title for my project is to inspire and change our thoughts to action, that our language is still with us, we just need to take hold of our words. We can relearn our language if we choose to, but we must use it daily and be mindful to actively use it. We have more opportunities to speak our language, unlike our ancestors who were restricted to speak. Now we can choose to make it happen as there is no one stopping us and there is no magical person who can make it happen for us.
I created this art store with items that I have made. All the proceeds will go towards Ahtna, and Dena'ina language work with Elders. I have never sold my items before, so this is a new experience for me. These items are made with much care, thought and prayer. I like to try new ideas, so I am continuously learning new techniques and ways to create art. My sister Kari Shaginoff has offered to share her art in the store, please check out her beautiful work. Dena'ina Elder, Helen Dick, and Ben Meyer Inupiaq, shared their talents too. Tsin'aen siigu!!!
