NEKENAEGE' NAHDAHW'SDELDIIX

The phrase "NEKENAEGE' NAHDAHW'SDELDIIX" is a Denae (Athabascan) word that translates to 'Our language came back to us.' This is the title of my project, a call to action for all of us to play a significant role in preserving our language. We can reclaim our language by using it frequently and being mindful to use it actively. Unlike our ancestors who were restricted from speaking due to colonization, we now have more opportunities to speak our language. It is now up to us to make the choice to incorporate our language into our daily lives, and in doing so, we can make a profound impact on the Ahtna community.

I have created this website to share my knowledge and document my ongoing language-learning projects. Throughout the pages, you will find ways to support my efforts in language learning and the Ahtna language lessons I have developed. These resources include task-based language teaching methods, which will be helpful to those who are interested in learning and creating new lessons.

Many of the proceeds generated from this website will be directed towards supporting the work with Native Elders, who are first heritage speakers and, because of their knowledge, are crucial to moving our language forward. This project will also support language learners through scholarships, cohorts, or means of language work. While I do have a few items available for purchase, my primary goal is to use this platform for teaching and sharing through classes, workshops, and memberships.

My hope is that by doing so, I can help sustain the language work and build a team of learners and experts to continue this work. I am deeply grateful to everyone who has supported me in the past, and I am especially thankful for your potential support. I pray for guidance as I move forward with this endeavor. Tsin'aen siigu.

Please click the Gallery tab to view my previous language work with family and friends. You will find pictures of our art and designs throughout the years. I am grateful for all who support this effort, and I send many blessings to you all. Lastly, I hope you enjoy the work in the Ahtna language and are inspired to join us in creating more learners—Ugheldze'' dzaen nahwiizet - good thoughts for the day.
